Over the last few years we have seen an abundance of devices that allow you to clamp small digital cameras to almost any surface. Jae Son, President of GoSmart, Inc. has taken this idea and applied it to the smartphone market.
The GoSmart Clip allows you to squeeze your smartphone into a ratchet based clamp that can then be mounted to a number of surfaces including shopping carts, baby strollers, umbrella poles, suitcases and yes, your steering wheel.
GoSmart claims that the clip is legal to use on the steering wheel in Calif., and you will not run afoul of the hands free laws. It keeps the phone secure, and allows you to talk hands free with the speakerphone. They do not recommend keeping the car charger cable attached for obvious reasons. They do suggest that you use a wireless Bluetooth headset in combination with the device.
It may even help with the problem of texting and driving, since the phone is constantly moving and there is no way you could ever possibly type. But it is far more likely you will use this mounted to the handlebars of your bike or trainer while working out.
The inexpensive device is available at Amazon for $26. It may be the simplest way to keep track of your phone when you are on the move.
